About Us
Chef Vichalya Antonio Fernando has always had a passion for great food. Growing up in Colombo even as a youth, he began having success catering small parties among the family. “It was fun, I did it because it was fun” Chef Vichalya explains. !” His developing passion for food was heightened with his association with his uncle, a very successful and respected chef turned consultant in the field. He took every opportunity to learn as much as he could by joining the Colombo Hilton as an apprentice, where he underwent a very thorough 3 years of apprenticeship and coming out as the best apprentice in the practical cooking category. Chef Vichalya decided to pursue a culinary degree at the SriLanka’s foremost culinary school- The SLITHM Colombo. After graduation, Chef Vichalya then interned at the Doha Intercontinental. After his successful internship experience gained at the Doha Intercontinental, Chef Vichalya was fortunate enough to have acquired a position in the Kitchen Brigade of the Wajba Palace. Where he was given a freehand to demonstrate the accomplishments that he acquired over the years. He took every opportunity to learn as much as he could by meeting chefs and exploring the many different cuisines Middle East had to offer.

Upon moving to SriLanka Chef Vichalya had a tremendous wealth of knowledge about European, Italian and The Middle Eastern food, and culinary traditions that he couldn’t wait to show off his knowledge. However, doing that was easier said than done; “I was so disappointed to find that I couldn’t get my hands on the same ingredients here in SriLanka. You take for granted the quality of olive oil, provisions, mushrooms, and fresh vegetables available in the Middle East. Most of my time was spent locating substitutes. That’s one of the many reasons why I love working at Uga Resort’s, we help find these flavors.”

Once joining UGA’Resorts, he was able to bring every skill that he had gained to the table. He has the distinction of setting up state of the art Kitchens at the newly opened Uga Bay.

At least once a year, he takes a trip abroad to continue his culinary education and expand his vast culinary and life experiences. Besides healthy cooking, when not sharing his knowledge with other chefs, Chef Vichalya is bit of a thrill seeker, enjoying active extreme sports, such dirt bike riding and jet skiing. He also enjoys traveling.

In addition to all of the testing and product development, Chef Vichalya, as well as a handful of others, help build Dial-a-Chef Lanka. . “It was a new concept to have a test kitchen at a produce company, and we were finding way that we could to justify our being there.” said Chef Vichalya. The results were miraculous in associate retention and understanding of products and the culinary possibilities. “We accomplished a lot, in a very short amount of time,” says Chef Vichalya, while looking back in his time in the kitchen at UGA Resorts.

Chef Vichalya has identified three of his best team mates who are well talented in their own areas to take up this challenge to push start DIAL- A –CHEF, THE TASTING ROOM & CULINARY CONCEPTS Sumith his Executive Chef who counts 18 years in the hot section, Anura a Junior sous Chef who has 13 years of knowledge in the gardemanger andRoshan another Executive chef who is an expert in the pastry bakery section with 15 years of experience, will be on the team with Chef to do culinary wonders in their respective areas.The service team is led by Eranda who is the restaurant manager at COi. His past experience include working at The Swan Hotel. Richmond, Melbourne, Enoteca Restaurant, Richmond and Terminus Hotel. Abbotsford, Melbourneare to name a few.

The fourth floor of CLIQUE is home to a fun-filled Asian fusion restaurant- COi, is the food personality of CLIQUE presented by Partner Chef- Vichalya Fernando (Mr. Coy, himself), adding modernity and finesse to impromptu dining. The restaurant retains and capitalises on the flexibility of the cuisine with shared plates and by encouraging family style service. The hustle and bustle of New World cuisine is glamorised and dished out.

COi’s cuisine draws inspiration from Asian street hawker style specialties and provides a refreshing Indo-Sri Lankan perspective. To be simple and on point is the vision for COi. We want to feed you and will not turn away late night diners and hope to satisfy midnight cravings. Belly-side up!

Like it does for most things in life, GOOD cocktails enhance your experience.TheCOi cocktails have been Aptly fashioned to compliment the menu. There are plenty of classics, served with an Asian twist. Once you have pickled, marinated, curried and glazed your palate- you will be good to go (upstairs) and further expand your beverage horizons at the Gastrobar and Club.

Casual but chic. We are dressing up the street, and it has never looked (or tasted) this good. COi’s authenticity in concept embraces family style service and offers a range of delicious sharing plates.
